SMDEP Histology Laboratory ManualOverviewThe objective of this mini histology course is to introduce the organization of selected cells and tissues and to correlate those with their functions. Although many methods are available, light microscopy is an essential tool that provides a basic understanding of cellular and tissue organization. The online images provided here for the students consist of mainly formaldehyde-fixed, paraffin-embedded, hematoxylin and eosin-stained specimens prepared for light microscopy. The specimens were scanned under the microscope at different magnifications. This allows the students to have virtually the same experience as if they were looking at the specimens under the microscope. Each lab has its own image set that demonstrates several important points related to certain cellular or tissue organizations and functions. Each image is accompanied with a short explanation online. In addition, there is a more detailed description in the laboratory manual. These guides should orient the students and help in the interpretation of the images.
